From June 13 to 19, severe rainfall events hit Guangxi, causing extensive flooding that heavily impacted the textile industry. Guilin experienced its worst flooding since 1998, severely disrupting production. In response, the Guangxi Textile and Rural Affairs Department has been fully engaged in post-disaster recovery efforts to minimize losses.
Since April, the department has held multiple meetings to coordinate flood control and disaster relief efforts. On June 21, a level-four emergency response was initiated for five cities: Liuzhou, Guilin, Wuzhou, Hezhou, and Hechi, to promote recovery in the textile sector. Subsequent meetings on June 23 and 24 focused on assessing risks and ensuring accountability at all levels.
In mid-June, the department dispatched experts in grain and vegetable production to areas like Guilin and Hezhou to implement detailed disaster mitigation techniques. From June 21, experts in planting, animal husbandry, and fisheries were organized into four emergency response teams to provide guidance on flood recovery, drainage, replanting, pest control, and safe disposal of dead animals in severely affected areas.
Starting in June, a daily reporting system was implemented to monitor and report major disaster situations in real-time. The recent heavy rains have impacted 33 counties across 7 cities, affecting 171 towns and 1167 villages. The autonomous region allocated 10 million yuan in disaster relief funds to support recovery efforts in key affected areas, including textile, animal husbandry, and fisheries.
